Seven to One: My Life Measured in Dog Years

Seven to One: My Life Measured in Dog Years

A Joyful Memoir

by Jerilynn Jones Henrikson

Tradition has it that one year of a dog’s life is equal to seven years of human life. The lifespan of the average dog is about twelve years. It follows that in eighty-four years a person could sequentially share life with seven dogs. My goal here is to “tell my life” in dog years, to measure phases of my existence by the lives of the dogs that have shared it. Of course, this is a thinly disguised excuse to tell stories about the humans who have shared my life as well. Are these stories true? Mostly. Exaggerated? Possibly. Engaging? Hope so.

“I just finished Seven To One My Life in Dog Years and it’s been a long time since I read a more entertaining and charming book. I’m still smiling thinking about it. This memoir begins with Jerilynn’s earliest years and travels throughout her life to the present describing hilarious incidents and heartwarming relationships with her dogs. I am not a dog person. I had one dog growing up and our relationship was never particularly close. After reading this book I realize I missed something special. This is a must read and I will return to this story in the future whenever I need a lift. If you love dogs and a little orneriness, pick this book up soon and immerse yourself in this joyful read.” -Barbara L.

“My favorite book to return to over and over again. A potpourri of personal images which relate to ones own life … filled with laugh out loud stories and poignant moments. Jerilynn has painted this charming read with photos and endearing memories … filled with keepsakes to take home, pets to treasure …to share with family and friends.” -Toni K.

“Great book!” -Marcy L.

“Loved these stories – entertaining and hilarious! Jerilynn has an unparalleled voice and terrific way with words. My mom and I enjoyed each story. Wonderful characterization and imagery of places in Kansas and beyond. Great for dog lovers, but there is so much more to the stories, too. Anyone would love this book!So readable and fun. Perfect Christmas gift for anyone!” -Annie W.
